MBA Tacky Christmas Party

Fun weekend (of Friday) – a small break from studying for finals.  AGBS threw a Tacky Christmas party, and we had a fun night at Greystone Mansion, singing along to the 12 Days of Christmas and enjoying yummy holiday food and beverages :) Here’s some pictures! (They’re not all mine, I had to steal some from Chelsea)  One more final to go!

AU vs. Bama game

So I had the pleasure of taking my little brother and his friend Elliot to the Iron Bowl this year (I’m not being sarcastic, we had so much fun!), what a close game, definitely the closest bama has come to losing (us & TN).  Anyways, here are a few pictures! Thanks for the tickets Mom, I’m so glad we got to see such a good game!

Birthday & War Eagle!

DSCF5822

So Wednesday was my 23rd birthday, and after a day of class until 12:15, I had the best birthday lunch I could think of—a volcano roll and salad from Fuji Sushi.  Then that night, I went out with Evie to Quixote’s at about 6:30, Kayla, Audra, Zac, and Trenton, and some people from class met up with me there.  Afterwards, we headed to 17-16 where Greg and Britton came to join.  Then we finished the night off at Sky Bar.  I ended up getting home about 2, and the Wall-Street Journal for Thursday morning had already been dropped off… crazy!  Anyways, I DSCF5836then had to go to bed and get up for my 8:00 class.  Needless to say I took a nap Thursday, but my birthday was super fun!

Friday night I went with some friends to Sky Bar for Fly-By Radio, always a good show!  Saturday, I got up about 11 to head to campus to tailgate for the first game!!  I met up with Evie at her tailgate for about an hour, then headed over to Greg’s neighbors tailgate for a few hours, and then to the MBA tailgate and then to the game.  That was all of course super fun, and I can’t wait until the next one.  We did end up leaving the game early to go get pizza and head back to the tailgate, but I went home about 9:30 because I was exhausted, and I think I had the best sleep ever last night.  And Auburn dominated Louisiana Tech 37-13. :) Anyways, until next time – Adios!

Orientation Week

DSCF5812

Haven’t had too much time to write this week because of MBA orientation, but it’s been a busy but fun week.  Greg graduated on Monday.  We went to eat lunch at Ariccia, then rushed to see him walk.

Tuesday, I had to get up early and make it to my first day of orientation – the high ropes course.  We got there and got an overview, then split into three teams.  First our team got in a circle and introduced ourselves to everyone by throwing a ball to each other in order, then faster, then four at once without dropping.  Then we headed over to this Wall that was about 9 feet tall, and had wooden planks like a ladder on the back.  The goal was to get every single person over the wall (about 11 of us), 2 people had to stay at the top, and after a few attempts we finally got everyone over!  I think that’s where I got a massive bruise on my thigh too.  Next, we went over the a shaded area.  Our leader had a PVC pipe about 2 feet tall and about 5 inches in diameter, closed off on one end, and a ping pong ball inside.  The goal was to fill it with water and get the ping pong balls as high as possible.  The catch: there were SO many hole punch sized holes in the pipe, and we got 5 small pieces of duct tape.  It looked so easy, but it wasn’t.  We ended up getting it about 1/4 of the way full, we beat the other teams, so it satisfied us…  The last thing we did before lunch was sit on a long thick log and get directions.  He said: don’t talk from this point on. We were supposed to line ourselves up in order by birthdays, not knowing whether it was by age, or month or what, while NOT talking, and NOT falling off the log.  This was incredibly difficult communicating, and balancing!  We ended up figuring out a plan, but couldn’t switch places easily, but he let us do it on the ground without talking and we managed in about 5 minutes or less. Then we all went up for lunch catered by McAlisters.

After lunch was the challenging high stuff.  We split up into 4 different teams. Each thing was about 35 feet up.  The first thing our team did was the “Topsy Turvy.”  It was a horizontal string ladder with about ten steps connecting from one pole to another.  We had to climb up one pole, walk across this ladder, while our teams were holding the strings of the ladder  tight.  The second thing we did was the “Lily Pads.”  The picture to the left pretty much explains it.  One person at the top crossing all five wooden circles trying to balance, while people at the bottom all controlling the balance and location of the lily pads.  This was definitely the toughest! The third thing we did was the “Sling Shot.” One person would get strapped into a hanging bungee cord, then get pulled up high (by the teammates controlling the string), and once we were all the way up, we’d pull a string and go flying forward (almost like the skycoaster at the Track).  This was my favorite!  You lost your breath when you suddenly fell like a roller coaster.  It was awesome!  The last thing we did was the Zip Line.  Pretty self explanatory, but we would climb up about 35 feet of a giant rope ladder thing, then get to a platform (which made me nervous because it was so wobbly), then we’d get strapped into the zip line, and fly forward.  Also very fun!  We headed out about 5:00 or so completely exhausted. (all those pictures are from AU’s Challenge Course website, pictures from our session will be posted soon)

Wednesday, we went to orientation from 9 to 4ish, and listened to our new teachers talk, and did a few team “get to know you activities.”  Then Thursday, we had half a day in statistics review, and the second half was about future plans.  I went to Sky Bar with a about 15 of us that night too. Friday was about the same, and Friday night we went to Bourbon Street and Sky Bar afterwards.  I found out that my assistantship was with our main leader of orientation, Trish, I think in career services, and I will find out more about that this Friday.  Overall I’m looking forward to it.  There’s about 40 of us, and I like everyone so far :)

Bowling, etc.

I got back in Auburn yesterday from a nice, relaxing trip home.  Mom was at a golf tournament and the rain caused them to leave later than expected, so we went ahead and left Gulf Shores at about 2:30.  We stopped in Greenville to get gas, and Greg and Rocky playing SkeeBall guess who we ran into… Mom was at the exact gas station where we stopped, not planned at all!  We ended up going bowling on Thursday night with Courtney.  I won the first game with a 109, but I never did make a strike.  We ate at the restaurant in the bowling alley afterward, and Rocky was treated like a king by our waiter.  Since he didn’t want anything to eat, and he was eating the cherries out of our Cokes, the waiter brought him a bowl of cherries, and a chocolate chip cookie!  He was set, then the waiter brought him two little bags of tokens for the arcade.  Needless to say, Greg and Rocky went to spend them.  After we ate, we all went and played a little Skee Ball, and Rocky ended up with 245 tickets, and all he wanted was 24 army men (10 tickets each), then the man behind the counter gave him an extra handful.  Lucky kid.  Dad took us to Mikato Wednesday night, and it was delicious as usual, note to self: get Supercrunch sushi roll next time, because it was delicious!

Last night a bunch of us went to Supper Club to see 17th Floor perform, and they were entertaining.  I am so ready for football season – Countdown: 34 days.  I already have homework for school in a statistics class.  I have to get the book and read/review about 10 chapters.  I also have to take a Career Assessment online which I am excited to see the results, but the site is currently not working for me!  I ALSO have to print out some 13 page form and answer all of the questions before orientation.  I’m ready to get back into the school situation though, and get a better sleeping schedule!  Daddy and Tojo

I just started using iTunes Radio service, and I’m liking it.  There are tons of  stations to choose from, and they load super quick.  I also downloaded a new game called Drop7 that is supposed to be good.  Anyways, down to the good stuff… here’s the rest of the pictures from this past week.  I love the one of Tojo sitting on Dad!

Home visit

I came home yesterday to come visit the family for the week.  Dad cooked us some yummy hamburgers last night, and tonight we went to an awesome restaurant called Tin Top in Bon Secour.  They have the best appetizer ever – sautéed crab claws.  One disappointment tonight though, is that what I had my heart set on – the Steamer Platter (Crab legs/Shrimp) was “out” according to our waiter, but there was a lady sitting right behind us that ordered it & got it! Well, she was the lucky lady to get the last batch!  Anyways, Greg and I plan to visit the Oasis tomorrow at the Wharf if the weather is nice, and we can get in!

Rocky is keeping Greg busy, and Tojo is keeping Dad busy.  I restored my last laptop for Rocky, and he has been playing “Spore Creature Creator” on it today.  He is now watching Greg play video games and trying to assist him… and asking him tons of questions.

The Bachelorette finale was tonight, and I was disappointed with the result, I would have liked to see her pick Kiptyn, then when Reid came back… definitely liked her to pick Reid, but she ended up picking Ed. Oh well, I don’t have to worry about keeping up with this season anymore!

Here’s a few pictures from the trip so far – plenty of Tojo, and then a few other random ones.

Favorite Comedians

Since I haven’t done much today to write about, I am going to make a list of my favorite comedians… and try to put them in order, but it WILL be hard! There are links all over the place in this post!

1. Kyle Cease

My favorite, and I haven’t even seen him live, but my Dad has… in the “Weirder. Blacker. Dimpler.” DVD, Dad was in the second row, and you can see him! I was so jealous that he went to Seattle at the perfect time to catch that show! Oh, and I started his first Facebook fan group :) Click here for the link.

That link to the DVD is actually the WHOLE THING. (You can actually see Dad in the audience in the white shirt!)

2. Mike Birbiglia

I haven’t seen him live either, but next time he comes remotely close, I am going! I love getting e-mail updates from his “Secret Public Journal”

3. Brian Regan

I did see him live on March 28, 2008 in Mobile, I’m actually wearing a shirt right now that says “The big yellow one’s the sun” from a joke he does. Click here for the pictures I got back last March.

4. Daniel Tosh

I was lucky enough to get really close seats for Daniel Tosh in Atlanta on October 24, 2008 for Courtney’s birthday. He was sooo hilarious, and he now hosts the show Tosh.0 (Tosh Point O). Also, I get to see him again the day after my birthday because he’s coming to Auburn!!

5. Jim Gaffigan

Jim Gaffigan came to Auburn October 16, 2007, and through the wonders of Facebook after telling him some good places to go after the show, I actually saw him and his opener at Sky Bar after the show. At the show, Courtney, Kelsey, Justin, and I had front row center seats, and I got his autograph after the show too!

6. Demetri Martin

He came to Auburn too, and Courtney and I went and got great seats. Unfortunately we weren’t allowed to take pictures, so nothing to show for it!! He hosted the show “Important Things with Demetri Martin” and I’m sure it will be out with a second season.

7. Nick Swardson On September 27, 2008, Greg and I took a trip to Atlanta to go see Nick Swardson in Atlanta at the Tabernacle with CJ and Drew. He has been in a bunch of movies including Grandma’s Boy, and has a CD/DVD combo called Party, that is hilarious.

8. Zach Galifianakis

I just loved his Comedy Central Presents, one joke that stands out is something like “I like to go to bad movies three weeks late when there’s only one person is in the theater… and sit RIGHT next to them.”
His special “Live at the Purple Onion” is hilarious also, especially when he plays his brother!!

9. Dane Cook

Mom got me tickets to see Dane Cook in Atlanta on November 15, 2007. He was of course hilarious. I’m more of a fan of the older stuff (Retaliation & Harmful if Swallowed) instead of his newest special “ISolated INcident.”

10. Chelsea Handler

I like her Comedy Central Presents, and of course am a fan of her show Chelsea Lately and her previous show Girls Behaving Badly, but I’m not really watching it every night or anything, but when I do watch it, I’m laughing the whole time.

11. Mitch Hedberg

I actually saw Mitch Hedberg perform one of his last shows when he came to Auburn with Jim Breur March 8, 2005. (He passed away March 29). Anyways, he is famous for his one liner jokes, and he put on a good show!

12.Jeff Dunham

I saw him on December 28, 2007 in Mobile, and he was awesome live.

13.John Heffron

He was one of the first comedians I saw and it johnheffroncdwas at the Improv at Harrah’s in in Las Vegas in the FRONT ROW (in 2003). He performed with Jeremy Hotz at the Comedy Club, and I got John’s signature after the show (pictured). He went on to win the second season of Last Comic Standing, which was the only season I watched.

Honorable Mentions ;) Ellen DeGeneres, Lynne Koplitz, Kyle Dunnigan, Stephen Colbert, Jay Leno, Conan O’Brien, Greg Behrendt, Bo Burnham, Sarah Silverman, Mitch Fatel
Others I’ve seen LIVE: The Amazing Johnathan, Jeff Foxworthy, Jim Breuer, Bruce Bruce, Charlie Murphy, Jeremy Hotz, Cedric Yarbrough, Carlos Alazraqui, Matt Fulchiron, Jennifer Coolidge

Jennifer Coolidge Pictures

The show was awesome! That drive to Atlanta wasn’t as much fun two days in a row, but I’m finally back!  The Laughing Skull Comedy Lounge was a really cool place, it only holds 74 people, and our seat was at a two person table in the front row… we could reach out and touch the stage! She had two opening acts, I wish I could remember their names, one was from Alabama.  She came out first as a “California real estate agent” and she is such an awesome “character actress.” Anyways, there are some pictures below, I’m so glad we made the trip!

Jennifer Coolidge

Jennifer-Coolidge-1100986So I found out that Jennifer Coolidge is going to be at the Laughing Skull Comedy Club tomorrow night in Atlanta, and I love her.  She is hilarious, but I have never seen her do stand-up.  I didn’t even know she did stand-up!  Anyways, I got the last two VIP tickets for tonight’s show, and Greg and I are driving to Atlanta tonight again to see her.  By the way, VIP in this case meant front row, and the VIP tickets for tonight were cheaper than the regular show tickets for the weekend (she’s in Atlanta from Thursday to Sunday).

If she doesn’t look familiar, then CLICK HERE to see EVERY single movie or show she’s been in,

Mom, Dad – Her first ever appearance was in Seinfeld, but my favorite character is Sherri Ann Cabot in Best in Show

Anyways, I’ll take some pictures tonight and post them later, I’m so excited!

Here’s a link to the show!
